This is real, live Mount A!

Well first of all, welcome to my very first blog here on the “MyMTA” site! I’ve never done one of these things before, but really, how hard can it be?

Now where to begin? I suppose I should introduce myself! The name’s Susan Humphrey, but you can call me Sue, and I’m from Campbellton, New Brunswick, a small town in Northern NB, right on the Quebec border. I graduated from Sugarloaf Senior High (Go Bruins Go!), and I’m a first year student here at Mount Allison. As of now I’m simply in the Bachelor of Arts programme, but I’m looking at doing Honours in International Relations, maybe some minors in Political Science, German or Religious Studies. I live in THE best residence on campus, Harper Hall, home of the Harper Havoc house party, sweet single rooms, great spirit and a direct connection to Jennings meal hall, which means that we don’t have to go outside to eat during the winter ☺ This has been especially nice these past few days as it’s been as cold as -35 C with the wind chill factored into ‘er. Ah, the joys of living in the Great White North, Canada!

Sooo, what else might you be looking to know about me? I’m pretty involved here at MTA – I’m Harper Hall’s Students’ Administrative Council (SAC) councillor, which is preeeeetty sweet since I get to represent my whole house at the University Council (kind of like Student Council in high school, but a tad cooler). I’m also involved in the External Affairs Committee, Academic Enrichment Committee and Harper’s House Council. But don’t get me wrong – I don’t just like sitting around in meetings all the time. I love tons of other things, like Model United Nations, the MTA Salsa Society and the MTA Swing Society, two really exciting dance groups here on campus. I had quite a lot of dance training before I got to MTA, but I’d certainly never had the chance to try these kinds of dance, and let me tell you, they are awesome! We’re getting ready to start our end of the year routines soon and I’m psyched! I also love music and theatre – I’m taking voice lessons here on campus and have been auditioning for a few plays and musicals. MTA has a phenomenal music department and three different theatre groups, Black Tie Productions, Windsor Theatre and Garnet & Gold, which put on several shows a year. There are a ton of other things that go on here, and there’s no way you can get involved in all of them, but there is definitely something here for everyone.

Now, through this blog I hope to be able to show you what Mount Allison is really like for students who go here. I was in the very same position as you less than a year ago, and I’ll do my best to answer those questions that can only be asked by someone who’s here, living their life at MTA. When I was in grade 12, I wanted to know what the people were like, if there was a lot of spirit, what made each residence different, if the professors were scary, classes huge and work overwhelming. I wanted to know if I would be happy here, if I would make lots of friends, if I would make this my new home. Fortunately for me, I am incredibly happy here, I’ve made friends that will last forever and I’m proud to call this school home. But like most things, this university’s not for everyone, and I hope I’ll be able to help you decide whether or not Mount Allison is the place for you.

So pleaaaaase, e-mail me, call me, write me, anything at all, and I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you might have that I haven’t answered in my blog. And if I can’t answer your questions, I’ll be able to find you someone who can, no problem!

Yeaaah! So check back here every week for a new blog, maybe I’ll even post more than once a week, who knows! But definitely, at least once a week, I’ll be on here, typing away, giving you the low down on life at B-E-A-utiful MTA! Hope to see you back here!

Much love,

Sue

Hi Sue,

I am glad to see that you were selected to be one of the writer's or Mt A Student featured blogs. Thanks for sharing your passion for Mt A this way.

So now that it is nice and cold in Sackville are you getting out to see the stars and keep your astronomy skills up?

I will be back in Sackville soon, so maybe will see you around Mt A.

Take care, and thanks for the blog.

Have a nice break.

Bob
